  • Pricing is a la carte.
    Standard rental period is 8 weeks, including 4 weeks free for approvals.
    Unused items returned after 4 weeks will be subject to a $5 restocking fee.
    Additional weeks will be prorated.

    Most costumes are available for purchase also at 3x the rental rate.

  • How to rent sustainable costumes in Chicago:

    Please review our rental policies prior to your appointment, you will be required to sign the agreement prior to removing costumes from our premises.

    • Member agreement:

      • Standard rental period is 10 weeks beginning at your first pulling date, additional weeks will be prorated.

      • Approvals period is 6 weeks after your first pulling date. After that, all non-rented items are subject to a $5/item restocking fee.

      • Payments are due 14 days after final invoice is sent.

      • All garments must be laundered and repaired as needed before they are returned or you will be charged for the labor and costs of this work being completed by Conscious Costume.

      • Alterations and cosmetic or function changes do not need to be restored.

      • Pending availability, you may return additional costumes in addition to what you’ve rented, please give us a courtesy heads up so we can prepare space. We are not currently offering discounts for donations.

    • Non-Member agreement:

      • Standard rental period is 8 weeks beginning at your first pulling date, additional weeks will be prorated.

      • Approvals period is 4 weeks after your first pulling date. After that, all non-rented items are subject to a $5/item restocking fee.

      • Payments are due 14 days after final invoice is sent.

      • All garments must be laundered and repaired as needed before they are returned or you will be charged for the labor and costs of this work being completed by Conscious Costume.

      • Alterations do not need to be restored.

      • There is a $5 processing fee for any invoice total below $20.

    You can park in our gated lot by approaching the gate located at 3421 W Potomac Ave, Chicago, IL 60651 and calling 210-557-9022. Proceed to the rooftop lot and take the exterior staircase up to the door where we will meet you.

    If you are using Public Transit our closest stops are:
    82 Bus - Homan & Potomac stop
    70 Bus - Division & Homan stop
    65 Bus - Grand & Homan stop

    If you need a stair free option for accessibility, loading, or unloading, please specify this need in the notes of the appointment intake form. Monark Studios is a historic industrial building and stair free access is only available from 8 AM - 4 PM due to building limitations. Access the building from the Homan Avenue visitor parking lot located just south of 1240 Homan Ave. You will enter through a shared ground level loading dock and use a freight elevator to access the space. Contact us if you have any additional questions or access needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.

    While Conscious Costume does not use any fragranced cleaning products, we do not know what products our donors may use.

  • Our stock includes secondhand costumes rescued from companies all over the Mid West and Mid Atlantic regions including The Goodman, Steppenwolf, Troika, The Hypocrites, and designer’s private collections.

    Conscious Costume rentals in Chicago will work with your budget, and your needs to see your full vision come to life. We would rather our costumes be used than stored to facilitate theatre costume reuse and sustainable costume sourcing. Please inquire about opportunities to remove capitalism from your costume acquisition.
