July Update
Okay, I TOLD you all that I would struggle with a weekly post, so here’s a little extra digest of things that have caught my attention since I last updated you.
Future Fabrics Expo last week!
Sustainable Angle Future Fabrics Expo introduces buyers to innovative and sustainable fabric options. I had a chance to tour Sustainable Angle’s fabric archive a few years ago and there were some TRULY incredible and creative fabrics, particularly textiles made from waste materials like pineapple fiber! Check out their virtual expo to get inspired!
La Bricoleuse Review of To Dye For by Alden Wicker
Costume professional reviews a book that answers the question “Are my clothes killing me?”
While this may seem hyperbolic, the modern methods of dying clothes are based broadly in petrochemicals. This review has put this book at the top of my reading list!
Another article on the harmful chemicals in modern clothing written by Alden Wicker!
“Having researched this for two years, I am more careful now with my own clothing. I avoid cheap, knock-off, or ultra-fast fashion brands. I shop with companies I trust, who care about their reputation and have a chemical management program or labels such as bluesign, Oeko-Tex, or GOTS. I choose natural fibers whenever possible, and avoid fancy promises like stain repellency, anti-odor finishes, easy-care and anti-wrinkle fabrics. I wash any new clothing before I wear it, with unscented, non-toxic laundry detergent.”
A departure from the doom and gloom of the fashion industry for a refreshing paradigm shift on ecology.
Have a great and safe weekend!
