What a month!

  • Conscious Costume has officially moved to our new home at ICNC (into a building with a COFFEE SHOP so come visit)!

  • We’ve hired a part time rentals manager now that I have moved away from Chicago, hopefully being less hands on with the rentals and sales side will allow me to focus more on writing, speaking, and education. Next month I will give you an update on how that is going and introduce her more fully.

  • It’s Fashion Revolution Week! Fashion Revolution was founded in the wake of the Rana Plaza disaster on April 24th, 2013. Fashion Revolution Week is their annual campaign bringing together the world’s largest fashion activism movement for seven days of action. This year, from Monday 18th-Sunday 24th April 2022, we will collectively reimagine a just and equitable fashion system for people and the planet. The theme for this year is Money, Fashion, Power. Conscious Costume is highlighting the #MyConsciousBudget audit system, which helps artists get a quick look at which choices they are making with ethical and environmental considerations in mind and which ones are more “conventional.” Check out our social media for more info! 

  • It’s also Earth Day! We’ve published a whole HOST of events for you to explore this Earth Day but if you don’t feel like going to another Zoom event or aren’t convenient to any of the events I shared, try some of these things

    • Enjoy a little time outside.

    • Garden or repot a houseplant, get close and personal with nature.

    • Look up your local recycling guidelines, is your effort to divide out recycling helping? Or is it actually “wishcycling” and making things worse?

    • Explore opportunities to compost or perhaps find places to shop plastic free!

    • Do a little spring cleaning!

    • Donate to an organization committed to protecting the Earth. Some of our favorites: 

    • Sunrise Movement

    • Nature Conservancy

    • Land Back

    • Intersectional Environmentalist

    • Culture Declares

    • Sign a few petitions or open letters, like this one.

    • Watch an “Earthy” movie, can I recommend Fern Gully for a little nostalgia?

    • How do you plan to mark Earth Day this year?
