Basic Q&A

New to the idea of Conscious Costuming?

This question and answer workshop aims to introduce how ethical thinking can be applied to costume design, construction, and management. We’ll begin with a brief overview of intersectionality in ecological thinking and go on to address audience questions for a curated experience for your community.

Waste Not

Many people first become concerned about their artistic environmental impact when seeing what is wasted during and after a production and wondering “where does it go?” We aim to address that question and provide alternatives to the landfill by introducing ecological and circular thinking. Instead of a “one-side-fits-all” model, we empower artists to consider their role as stewards, just one link in a complex supply and disposal chain. Attendees will receive a handout with ethical ways to dispose of unwanted materials and titles for suggested reading.

Cost: $300

Time: 60-90 minutes

Live your values

What is the most ethical way to source costume materials? This workshop will help attendees build a personal values aligned sourcing identity. You will learn how to think with abundance and support circular and sharing economies. We focus on supporting ethical supply chains and why this is important while understanding our own role as stewards of materials in this complex supply and disposal chain. Attendees will receive a hand out of sourcing ideas and how to shop existing stocks first to start seeing ecological footprint as a measure of a successful design.
